Air
Air travel is simple with Newcastle International Airport situated just over the border of Northumberland in neighbouring Newcastle upon Tyne. Voted ‘Airport of the Year’ in 2023, Newcastle International Airport flies to over 80 destinations including Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, UAE and The USA. Edinburgh International Airport is also only 65 miles or 75 minutes drive to the north.
Land
The major A1(M) connects Northumberland with the wider UK making The Scottish Capital, Edinburgh just over one hour away by car. Major roads also include the A19 and A69. According to the Sunday Times, Northumberland offers one of the least stressful driving locations due to its fluid road network, route connectivity and breath-taking scenery.
Sea
The county is home to deep water Port of Blyth which has a strong cluster of businesses operating in the offshore wind sector due to its close location to windfarms such as Blyth Offshore Demonstrator, Dogger Bank Wind Farm, Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, Hornsea and projects in Firth of Forth.
Rail
Weaving along the unspoilt coast is the East Coast Mainline which offers direct access from Northumberland to London by train in under three hours as well as Edinburgh in around one hour. The newly reopened Northumberland Line links six stations in South-East Northumberland, connecting the county with Newcastle and also allowing the ability to change at Northumberland Park to board Tyne & Wear Metro services which run across North East England.
