JDR Cable Systems has opened its new factory in Cambois near Blyth, Northumberland.
The manufacturer confirmed the £130m plant – part funded by the UK government’s Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Support Scheme – is now up and running following a three-year build-out of the 69,000-square metre facility.
JDR will produce 132kV subsea wires for fixed and floating wind farms and other energy schemes at both its existing UK base in Hartlepool and the new site, where construction commenced in late 2022.
The first order being worked on in Blyth is for the HyNet hydrogen pipeline and carbon capture network in north-west England, it is understood.
“JDR’s new high-voltage cable manufacturing facility in Blyth is now operational, marking an important milestone in the company’s investment in UK subsea cable manufacturing,” said a spokesperson.
“Across our UK facilities, including Hartlepool and Blyth, JDR is supporting a number of important energy infrastructure projects, including the previously announced HyNet projects.”
