Harlyn Secures Landmark Headquarters at Historic Port of Blyth Building

Harlyn Solutions Ltd will soon be making a move to one of Blyth’s most iconic and historic landmarks — the former Port of Blyth, Blyth Harbour Commissioners Office, situated prominently at the corner of Bridge Street and Plessey Road.

This strategic relocation will mark a significant step in Harlyn’s continued expansion as a leading force in the logistical engineering and transport solutions sector. As a Tier 1 contractor delivering major projects across multiple continents, Harlyn’s trajectory will continue to reflect both operational excellence and a steadfast commitment to long-term regional partnerships.

Later this year, Harlyn will depart from Advance Northumberland’s Blyth Workspace — where the company has enjoyed a productive and collaborative chapter — and move into the Grade II listed Commissioners Office. This building, rich with maritime heritage, will represent far more than a change of address. The relocation will result from a major long-term lease agreement between Harlyn and the Port of Blyth, cementing Harlyn’s role as a key stakeholder within the region’s industrial and maritime ecosystem.

Originally constructed in 1913, the building’s grand Roman Doric columns and historic architecture will soon serve as a gateway to cutting-edge engineering, innovation, and project delivery. The interior is currently being reimagined, preserving the building’s heritage while introducing modern functionality, with state-of-the-art office spaces designed to support Harlyn’s growing portfolio of international and high-complexity projects. Once complete, the new headquarters will function as a central hub, enhancing coordination across Harlyn’s global operations.

This investment — a collaboration between Harlyn and the Port of Blyth — will also mark a milestone in the revitalisation of the town’s historic infrastructure. It will bring new life to a long-dormant site, transforming it into a dynamic centre of professional activity and strategic oversight.

With additional operations at South Harbour and a growing presence across key markets, Harlyn’s relocation will underscore its long-term commitment to the Port of Blyth and to the future of the region.

Harlyn has proudly grown its business from its roots right here in Blyth, creating a range of skilled and rewarding jobs for local people as the company has expanded. Employing 30 people from the Blyth office alone is a point of real pride for the team and a positive contribution to the local community. As we look ahead, we see ourselves as part of Blyth’s future — committed to investing in local talent, building long-term partnerships, and sustaining the momentum of our company’s growth from this historic town. The move will be more than symbolic — it will be a strategic expansion designed to elevate operational capability, strengthen client engagement, and reinforce the company’s position at the forefront of the logistic engineering landscape.

Hamish Managing Director, Harlyn Solutions said: “We’re very excited about the move and we can’t wait to invite clients and new employees in. Having our own offices marks a significant milestone for the company, and there’s a satisfying synergy that our new home is so closely linked to the Port of Blyth. We work closely with the Port of Blyth on many of our projects, and being located here is perfect for our growing list of offshore work.”

Alasdair Kerr, Commercial Director at Port of Blyth, commented: “We are delighted to support Harlyn’s continued growth as they breathe new life into this historically significant building at the Port of Blyth. Having worked closely together on various projects for several years, it is fantastic to see Harlyn’s global transport solution service thriving. Their presence further strengthens Blyth’s position as the UK’s leading offshore energy support base.
