The Kickstart Programme is a new Government initiative that provides funding to employers to create 6-month job placements for 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
Additional funding is available to employers for each Placement to ensure the young person is fully supported and leaves the Scheme prepared to enter work.
The scheme is available to any business and across all sectors including the private, public and voluntary and community sectors. From 3rd February 2021, the Department for Work and Pensions simplified the process for employers to register for the scheme. Employers can apply directly to the Department of Work and Pensions or apply through a supporting Gateway.
Full details of the Kickstart Programme can be found here: www.gov.uk/government/collections/kickstart-scheme
The North of Tyne Combined Authority will continue to act as a Gateway on behalf of smaller businesses and charities to create good quality placements in line with the expectations of the Good Work Pledge. In assuming the role of Gateway, we will provide employers with a robust assurance process to help navigate the Scheme and maximise the impact for their organisation and for young people.
The Combined Authority will use a two-stage application process to gather the information required to apply to the Department for Work and Pensions. The expected milestones and timescales for employers are outlined below but are subject to change.
From the Expression of Interest stage to recruiting a candidate, the process takes approximately 10-14 weeks, and a minimum of 8. Please consider these timescales when planning how you engage with the scheme.
